Datura stramonium L.

Datura stramonium, known by the common names Jimson weed, devil's trumpet, devil's weed, thorn apple, tolguacha, Jamestown weed, stinkweed, locoweed, datura, pricklyburr, devil's cucumber, Hell's Bells, moonflower and, in South Africa, malpitte and mad seeds, is a common weed in the Solanaceae (nightshade) family. Parts of the plant, especially the seeds and leaves, are sometimes used as a hallucinogen, specifically a deliriant.
Nine new tropane alkaloids, 3,7-dihydroxy-6-propionyloxytropane (16), 6,7-dehydro-3-tigloyloxytropane (17), 3-tigloyloxy-6,7-epoxytropane (25), 3,7-dihydroxy-6-(2′-methylbutyryloxy) tropane (30), 6,7-dehydroapoatropine (35), 3-(3′-methoxytropoyloxy)tropane (45), 3-tigloyloxy-6-isobutyryloxy-7-hydroxytropane (49), 3-tropoyloxy-6-isobutyryloxytropane (64), 3β-tropoyloxy-6β-isovaleroyloxytropane (66) were determined from the extracts of Daturastramonium L. (Moroccan origin).
