Patrinia villosa Juss.
Patrinia villosa Juss is a famous traditional Chinese medicine and often used in folk medicine as anti-virus and anti-bacteria agent. Saponin extracted from Patrinia villosa (Thunb.) Juss (SPVJ) is a Chinese medicine which is used widely by traditional medicine doctors. The whole plant is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and hepatic. It is used in the treatment of carbuncles, acute appendicitis, intestinal abscess, postpartum pain, dysmenorrhoea and endometriosis. It stimulates the circulation, treats abscesses, promotes regeneration of liver cells. Large doses can cause a decrease of white blood cells, nausea and dizziness.
Nine compounds including n-dotriacontanoic acid, n-dotriacontanol, Palmic acid, oleanolic acid aurentiamide acetate, daucosterol, beta-sitosterol, 7beta-hydroxysitosterol and stigmasterol were isolated from petroleum ether and chloroform extract of Patrinia villosa Juss. and three compounds (Ferulic acid, Ursolic acid and Rutin) are firstly obtained from P. villosa.
